Have you noticed a cracked or damaged tooth?

Are you concerned about the health of your teeth or feeling a little discomfort?

A dental crown is one of the best solutions to protect a damaged tooth, restore functionality and help improve your smile.

The original procedure of fitting a crown may include many visits to complete over a few weeks.

Your dentist carries out all the preparation work, and the prosthetic crown is prepared in a laboratory. This process also requires a temporary crown to be worn in the meantime.

The CEREC same-day crown at Creekside Dentistry provides the same levels of quality with additional benefits.

You can learn more by reading our article about the differences between same-day and traditional crowns.

Discovering that same-day crowns are possible is one thing, but understanding how long a same-day crown takes or the process involved is another.

So with this in mind, let’s take a closer look at CEREC same-day dental crowns.

How long does a CEREC crown procedure take?

Creating and placing a CEREC same-day crown is completed in one visit.

The entire process takes approximately 60-90 minutes.

CEREC CAD/CAM Milling machine

A dental CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) system comprises three different operations that function as a single system.

The CEREC system comprises:

  • The digital impression system
  • 3D dental design software
  • Computerized milling machine

The process involves:

  • Evaluation
  • Preparation
  • Design
  • Fitting

Evaluation

Your dentist will complete a full oral examination to evaluate the situation. This exam involves any previous dental treatments and current health conditions. He will assess the condition of your teeth and gums to:

  • Understand if a crown is right for you
  • Identify any additional dental work required

Preparation

When you’ve discussed the possibilities and decided on a course of action, your dentist will apply a local anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable.

The dentist will then prepare the affected area by gently removing a small portion of your tooth.

With CEREC same-day dental crowns, it is possible to preserve more of your natural tooth than traditional crown methods. This part of the procedure creates a suitable area for bonding the CEREC crown onto your natural tooth.

Your dentist will use an intraoral camera to capture precise digital scans of your teeth and gums to generate a 3D digital map.

Design and make

The 3D scans digitally create an accurate contour map of your prepared tooth and gum line.

The CEREC milling unit will precisely sculpt your dental crown from a solid block of high-quality ceramic.

The ceramic color is custom-matched to your natural tooth color.

The milling unit will shape the crown to blend seamlessly with your smile.

Fitting

Your dentist will place your newly generated crown on your natural tooth.

They’ll ensure that it looks and feels comfortable.

They’ll give it a final polish when you’re both satisfied and securely bond them together.
